DOWNLOAD NO.297 - THE SHOWMEN

The Showmen played on the same bill as The Missing Links at the Beatle's Village (according to contributor, Andrew Ainsworth) and the rhythm section was approached by Andy James to join up with The Missing Links. The Showmen's leader, Peter Ellison, was going to dissolve the combo. After the demise of The Missing Links in April '66, Baden & the late Ian Thomas rejoined the reformed Showmen.

In May 1965 The Showmen released their first single "Don't Deceive / Too Far Away". Later the same year they released "Naughty Girl / Too Much Monkey Business". Both singles were on the Lee Gordon owned Leedon label.

For download is the single "Naughty Girl":

  1. Hi Tom,

You need to fix up the aticle in regards to 'the Showmen changed their name to The Missing Links', actually The Showmen played on the same bill as The Missing Links at the Beatles Village (I think??) and the rhythm section was approached by Andy James to join up with the Links - Showmen band leader Peter Ellison was going to dissolve the combo anyway!

After the demise of the Links in April '66, Baden & the late Ian Thomas rejoined the reformed Showmen.

    3. Chris Kennedy was the son of journalist Buzz Kennedy.
TV star, media journalist, 2uw announcer and press secretary to (I think)
      Sir Robert Menzies.
Chris came out of North Sydney Boy's High School as an accomplished flautist, but played excellent guitar. He started a few rock bands at school including the Fourshores and then onto the already formed Showmen. As I said he was a very accomplished guitarist and singer. So playing second fiddle to Pete Ellison was a dream for him. They were a very good north shore band.
