Some notes on Maple Lace:

John A. Bird played piano for Maple Lace but later moved to Newcastle to work with John J. Francis and after that collaboration he became the piano player in the legendary Newcastle rock'n'roll band Benny & The Jets.

Doug Rea, was one of the founders of the Down Town Roll Band in Sydney, from which the band Sherbet was formed. Guitarist Clive Shakespeare was also one of the founders. Rea left Sherbet to perform with Maple Lace who covered the UK single “Gimme Dat Ding” basically for the Sydney market while the 1970 radio ban was in place. Their cover version reached #6 on the Sydney top 40 charts in 1970.

The second single "Can't Stay Away From You" was almost a complete 180 degree change in style. But if you listened to the flip side of “Gimme Dat Ding” you’ll know that it was a soft melodic song too.
