DOWNLOAD NO.41 - WALLY MORRISON

I OFTEN WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO WALLY? WHERE'S WALLY NOW?

WALLY MORRISON HAD A LOCAL DOUBLE-A-SIDE HIT SINGLE CALLED: "DOESN'T ANYBODY WRITE OLD LOVE SONGS ANYMORE" / "THE GLEN".

IT CHARTED WELL IN THE NEWCASTLE AND HUNTER VALLEY AREAS BUT DIDN'T MAKE BIG SALES OUTSIDE OF NSW.

THE RECORD WAS PRODUCED AT COL JOYE'S S A.T.A. STUDIOS IN SYDNEY. THE PIANO PLAYING IS VERY GOOD WHOEVER DID IT!

WAL MORRISON, AS HE BECAME KNOWN LATER, WENT FROM RADIO D.J. CAREER TO NEWS PRESENTER ON N.B.N THE LOCAL TELEVISION NETWORK.

HE HAD HIS OWN VOICE ACADEMY AND WORKED BEHIND THE SCENES AT N.B.N. ON NEWS PRODUCTION AND SO FORTH.

ENJOY THESE HIGHLY NOSTALGIC YE OLDIES FORM THE MID 1970S.

From Wally:

Hi Tom,
I guess you must be over 30...Else, how would you have a copy of one of my singles? You've cleaned it up really well, btw. I'm sure you won't object to me passing it on to my niece. I'll get the other singles done too. For prosperity... and my kids. I've honestly neglected that part of my life because the latter years were so much more important. But here you are (and my niece) reminding me that I have a legacy I should share. I don't believe in coincidence. The arranger and pianist on 'Doesn't anybody write old love songs anymore' was Milton Saunders. He wasn't young then so he's probably passed away. So all the best. May you prosper. Most importantly, may the children you are teaching be blessed.
Kind Regards,
Wal Morrison.

  1. Hi Tom. I'm intrigued. Who are you? (You can email me at hiredgums@gmail.com if you wish.)

I have a niece who is heavily into genealogy and through her, I discovered I have several entries in the Newcastle Region Library archives. So I Googled my name to see what would show up. You did!

I doubt you'll get many responses to my name, after all it's been over 30 years since 'Doesn't anybody write old love songs anymore'and the two follow ups were on the charts.

You wondered what happened to me. Here's the story in precis. I became a Christian and fame and fortune lost its sheen. I married and fathered two children. When they were still young I decided it wasn't fair for them to cope with a dad who was in the public eye so I quit being a TV and radio personality and went freelance, doing voiceovers, something I'm still doing. And the kids (now grown)have turned out well.

Col Joye and I are still great friends. (name dropper aren't I? :o) I'm still writing songs for others.

There have been a couple of Christian albums I've done over the last few years and many live performances for Christian groups. Now,I'm contemplating going back to basics and performing for the general public.

I'm usually reticent to talk about my past, even to my children, but I got a thrill finding your site. Thank you.

I wish you every success with your blog. As I said, don't expect many responses to my name.

One last thing. I have recently obtained a DVD of a program I did in January 1976. If you'd like it on your blog tell me how to upload it and it's yours.

    All the best,

    Wal (ly) (ter) Morrison.
