JOHNNY ASHCROFT A.K.A. "THE BARON".
JOHNNY HAS HAD A COUPLE OF OFFBEAT AND VASTLY DIFFERENT RELEASES IN HIS CAREER.
HE STARTED HIS HIT RUN WITH A COUNTRY BALLAD "LITTLE BOY LOST" IN 1960 BUT BY THE MID 1970S HE WAS TRYING DIFFERENT GUISES. HIS NEXT BIG HIT WAS "HOLY JOE THE SALVO" IN 1975, A POP ORIENTED BALLAD.
NOT ONE TO PIGEONHOLE HIMSELF HE TRIED DISCO AND BY 1981 HIS NEXT, ALBEIT MINOR HIT, WAS A 12" DANCE MIX OF "SIXTEEN TONS OF HIT THE ROAD JACK". THE DISCO 12" WAS 6 MINUTES LONG AND RELEASED UNDER THE ALTER EGO OF "THE BARON". JOHNNY'S PARTNER GAY KAYLER ALSO FEATURED ON THE BARON ALBUM CALLED "A TIME FOR A CHANGE" (SEE COVER PICTURE ABOVE).
R.C.A. RELEASED JUST A FEW EDITED 7" SINGLES OF THE LONGER 12" MIX WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN AVAILABLE ON C.D. THE 7" IS 4 MINUTES LONG.
