DOWNLOAD NO.96 - DONNIE SUTHERLAND

DONNIE SUTHERLAND WAS A RADIO ANNOUNCER AND T.V. SHOW HOST. HIS TELEVISION PROFILE BOOMED WHEN HE BECAME HOST OF SOUNDS UNLIMITED WHICH WAS A SATURDAY MORNING POP SHOW FOR THE TEENYBOPPER SET.

I WAS WORKING PART-TIME (DURING HIGH SCHOOL YEARS 11 AND 12) IN AN ELECTRICAL GOODS DEPARTMENT STORE AT CESSNOCK, ROUGHLY AT THE SAME TIME SOUNDS WAS ON AND USED TO WATCH HIM IN BETWEEN SELLING RECORDS AND SO ON. IT MADE THE JOB FUN EVERY SATURDAY MORNING.

DONNIE SUTHERLAND HAD 2 HITS: "FAIRYLAND" IN 1969 AND "DANCING MAN" IN 1977.

"DANCING MAN" WAS RECORDED IN 1976 AND HIT THE TOP 100 IN 1977, REACHING #43 NATIONALLY. IT IS A SONG AIMED SOLELY AT THE DISCO MARKET OF 1977 AND HAS THE SAME SOUND THAT ANY HIT OF THE DISCO ERA HAD e.g. ABBA'S "DANCING QUEEN" OR "FUNKY FEET" ETC...DONNIE CAN'T BE EXCUSED THOUGH, FOR THE CHOREOGRAPHY IN THE CLIP THAT WENT WITH THIS SONG!

DONNIE'S BROTHER TED SUTHERLAND WAS THE MANAGER OF OSCARS RECORD BAR HERE IN NEWCASTLE. HE WAS A GREAT BLOKE AND OFTEN SHOPPED THE WORLD TO GET ME RARE DANCE TRACKS. IT WAS HE WHO FOUND ME MY FIRST "HOT TRACKS" REMIXES AND "DISCONET" GOODIES.
