DOWNLOAD NO.118 - FANTASY

Fantasy was a Melbourne pop group that was originally John Farnham's backing band. They had a huge novelty hit in 1973 with "Marrow Song" (which was the "B" side of the single). If you listen to John's old material you can hear that the Fantasy boys were adept at providing vaudevillian backing for some of John's schmaltzy hits. Their second hit "Just Another Pretty Face" was also very successful and had a great nostalgic sound from a bygone era.

Personnel (up to 1975):

JEFF BUZAGLO keyb'ds, vcls

COLIN ROSS drms, vcls

CHRIS STUDDARD bs, vcls

DAVE STUDDARD gtr, vcls

KEITH McKAY keyb'ds

They went on to record an album, Tribute To Australian Rock And Roll (Hammond) in 1977. They put out 3 singles, of which 2 did very well.

45s:

1 Universal Sun / Suzie - 1971 - non-charting

2 Forty Days Of Rain / Marrow Song - 1973 - got to #11

3 Just Another Pretty Face / Look Around - 1973 - got to #45

My favourite was the bouncy "Just Another Pretty Face" which should have been on a C.D. by now, but as usual, after 30 years of looking it hasn't shown up on anything in my town! "Just Another Pretty Face" appeared on the album Hot Aussie Night in 1974.

This home-made transfer of "Just Another Pretty Face" sounds so good, you'd think it was C.D. quality. Enjoy!
