DOWNLOAD NO.26 - DAVE AND THE DERROS

"DAVE AND THE DERROS" WAS CREATED BY LEAD SINGER DAVID JONES (WATMUFF). DAVID JONES WAS A RADIO STATION DISC JOCKEY BASED IN NEWCASTLE N.S.W.

DAVID HAD A LARGE REPERTOIRE OF RADIO CHARACTER VOICES, ONE OF WHICH WAS HIS BELOVED “DAVE THE DERRO”. DAVID LIKED TO MAKE PARODY SONGS FOR HIS RADIO SHOW. THIS EVENTUALLY ALLOWED HIM TO WORK UP AN ACT BASED ON "DAVE". HE COMPLEMENTED HIS PERFORMANCES WITH AN EVER CHANGING BACKING BAND OF MUSOS. SOME OF THE VARIOUS MUSOS BACKED JOHN PAUL YOUNG.

BACK IN 2004 I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF HELPING DAVID CONVERT SOME OF HIS COMEDY ROUTINES TO C.D. AS HE WANTED TO PRESERVE HIS WORK. WHILST DOING THIS I ASKED IF HE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SOME 12” REMIXES DONE? WHEN HE SAID YES, I COMPLETED TWO FOR HIM:, “NICE LEGS SHAME ABOUT THE FACE (ULTIMATE TOM MIX) AND “TWO CANS OF BEER AND A PACKET OF CHIPS (EXTENDED TOM MIX). (CLICK OPEN HIS MESSAGE).

DAVE HAS GIVEN ME KIND PERMISSION TO INCLUDE SOME SONGS BELOW FOR DOWNLOAD.

"EXTENDED FOURPLAY BY DAVE":

1) NICE LEGS SHAME ABOUT THE FACE (ULTIMATE TOM MIX)

2) UP YOUR NOSE WITH A RUBBER HOSE (MONO 7”)

3) DEATH TO DISCO (MONO 7”)

4) TWO CANS OF BEER AND A PACKET OF CHIPS (EXTENDED TOM MIX)

  1. Dave and the Derros are brilliant. Can't believe all their stuff isn't available on CD. I have the Live Album (Vinyl)from the early 80's. Been searching everywhere for the studio versions on CD and the Live Album as well. John W in Bairnsdale Vic.

  2. Oh Wow. I was a 2NX listener during my teenage years, and loved David Jones. He did the breakfast shift. Nice legs, Shame about the face will definitely be making its way to my ipod.
