PUSSYFOOT HAD 2 BIG HITS IN AUSTRALIA IN THE MID 1970S AND MOST AUSSIES PROBABLY THOUGHT THE ACT WAS FROM THE U.K. WELL THAT’S SLIGHTLY WRONG! HALF OF THE ACT WAS FROM OZ.
DONNA JONES (LEAD SINGER) WAS THE SPOUSE AND PARTNER OF MICK FLINN WHO WAS A MEMBER OF THE AUSSIE POP GROUP, “THE MIXTURES” 1969-1972. THE MIXTURES SANG: “IN THE SUMMERTIME”, “PUSHBIKE SONG”, “HENRY FORD” AND “CAPTAIN ZERO” AMONGST OTHERS.
MICK FLINN WAS A WRITER, PRODUCER AND MUSO. FLINN STAYED BEHIND THE SCENES AND DONNA WAS PROMOTED AS SOLO ARTIST PUSSYFOOT.
THEIR FIRST HIT WAS “THE WAY YOU DO IT” IN 1975. IT REACHED #1.
THEIR SECOND HIT WAS “OOH JA JA” IN 1976-77. IT REACHED #9.
DONNA AND MICK WORKED TOGETHER FOR THE REST OF THE 1970S WITH MINOR SUCCESS IN OZ. THEN DONNA GOT A GIG IN “THE NEW SEEKERS” CIRCA 1980.
IN EARLY 1983 FLINN AND JONES FORMED A “PUSSYFOOT BAND" AROUND DONNA (MOSTLY FEMALE BAND MEMBERS + MICK ON BASS) AND THEY TRIED THEIR HAND AT DISCO 12" MIXES.
“MIND OVER MATTER” - EXTENDED MIX
“LAY YOUR LOVE ON THE LINE” - EXTENDED MIX
THE 12" RECORDS DIDN’T SET THE DANCE WORLD ON FIRE BUT MANY AEROBICS TEACHERS USED THESE LONGER SONGS FOR THEIR WORKOUT MUSIC. IN 1984 MICK CO-WROTE "DO THE CONGA" WHICH WAS A HIT FOR U.K. GROUP "BLACK LACE"
PUSSYFOOT BAND WAS IN THE “SONG FOR EUROPE” CONTEST IN THE MID 1980S BUT BY THE END OF THE DECADE DONNA WAS BACK AS A SINGER IN “THE NEW SEEKERS”.
NOWADAYS DONNA FLINN (MARRIED NAME) IS SINGING AS PART OF A JAZZ ENSEMBLE AND STILL REMAINS PART OF “THE NEW SEEKERS”. SHE HAS NUMEROUS INTERNET SITES ABOUT HER EARLY WORK IN THE U.K. AS PART OF POP GROUP "SPRINGFIELD REVIVAL".
